Commercial Solar Panel Cleaning

Protect your investment and maximise ROI

Protect your PV system investment with our commercial solar panel cleaning service, available to clients throughout the North West including those in Manchester, Bolton, Preston, Blackpool, Liverpool, Warrington, Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds.

Roof and ground-mounted PV systems are exposed to a variety of elements that can adversely affect module performance. From dust, traffic pollution and the rigours of wet, cold, windy winters to autumn leaves and the presence of birds and other wildlife, layers of deposited residue and waste prevents module cells from absorbing the energy from sunlight needed to generate energy.

Maintaining the surface cleanliness of your array allows cells to function as close to the projected manufacturer performance claims as possible, while also avoiding module degradation through overheating or micro-cracking.

Dirt on solar panels

The importance of clean PV systems

Module surfaces kept free of residue and dirt are key to long-term performance. Arrays should be cleaned on an ongoing basis to avoid damage and degradation.

Please note this service is available only for commercial, industrial or agricultural businesses or educational campuses with approx 250+ panels.

Warranty validation

Damage caused from dirt and residue can invalidate hardware manufacturer warranties.

Optimising solar ROI

Accumulations of dirt, dust and residue prevent light from reaching the module cells resulting in a lower return on investmemt.

Maintain site presentation

Clean solar arrays, especially those visible at ground level, help present a professional image.

Avoid future issues

Dirt and residue can act as insulators that cause PV cells to overheat, shortening their lifespan.

The grime factors; how your panels can become filthy over time...

Commercial PV systems face a range of environmental challenges in the UK.

Layers of dust and dirt

Generated from dust clouds, industrial pollution and traffic, a problem magnified in urban areas.
Pollution

Tree sap and lichen

May require multiple attempts at removal, depending on volume and time in situ.
Residue

Leaves (decomposed)

Deposited throughout autumn and winter. Decomposed and wet leaves can create thick layers on top of the panel surface.
Leaf decay

Bird droppings

Uric acid can damage solar PV cells over time.
Waste

Our commercial solar panel cleaning process

All cleaning contracts are completed with a focus on attention to detail and site safety.

Improved performance rates after cleaning will vary depending on age and condition of panels prior to cleaning, but in some cases it is possible to increase electricity generation by upto 42%* (source: Insider Art on YouTube)

Your Essential Solar team will inspect the panels above and below in each array; we check for broken glass, micro-cracking, loose wires and animals such as birds or bats. The client is notified of anything untoward prior to cleaning.

Equipment needed to clean the panels is positioned for work, including our bespoke cherry pickers.

We’re then ready to begin cleaning, using purpose-built water-fed brushes that carefully loosen debris and leaves.

We use deionised water (also referred to as demineralised water or DI water), considered safer on application than conventional tap water. Cleaning with a pure water such is a safe, low risk and cost-effective method of professionally cleaning solar panels.

Our attention then turns to areas with stubborn layers, again carefully removing residue and dirt.

We clean the surface again using a bespoke brush tool, leaving your solar PV system in first class condition.
